Plant Details
Rubber is cultivated for its latex, which is processed into natural rubber for industrial products like tires, gloves, and footwear. It grows best in tropical climates with temperatures between 20–35°C and requires well-drained, fertile soil. Rubber trees are planted in rows and require regular tapping to extract latex. The trees begin producing latex after 6–7 years and continue for over two decades. Sustainable management practices, including intercropping and soil conservation, enhance productivity. Rubber plays a crucial role in the global economy, supporting industries and livelihoods in producing regions. It also contributes to afforestation efforts, providing ecological benefits like carbon sequestration and habitat creation.
