Plant Details
Cashew is a tropical tree crop grown for its nuts and apples. It thrives in warm, humid climates with temperatures between 25–30°C and requires well-drained, sandy or laterite soils. Cashew trees are drought-tolerant and require minimal maintenance once established. The nuts are roasted and processed into snacks, while the apples are used to make juices, jams, and liquors. Cashew nuts are rich in healthy fats, protein, and minerals like magnesium, supporting heart health and bone strength. The shells yield oil used in industrial applications. Cashew cultivation is economically significant in countries like India and Brazil due to its high export value and growing global demand.
