World Environment Day Celebration at the Residence of ABTEC Chairman.
As part of the World Environment Day 2026 celebrations held in the residence of Mr. K. J. Jacob, Chairman of ABTEC, became the venue for a memorable environmental initiative that brought together cycling enthusiasts, community leaders and government officials in support of a greener future.
The event was attended by more than 60 members of the Kottayam Cycling Club and other participating cycling groups, who assembled at Mr. Jacob’s residence after a symbolic ride promoting environmental awareness and sustainable living.
A unique highlight of the programme was the opportunity to witness the 360 year old Elanji (Picas) tree preserved within the premises. The majestic tree, carefully protected by Mr. K. J. Jacob over the years, stands as a living example of the importance of conserving our natural heritage for future generations.
The gathering was graced by Kottayam District Collector Mr. Chetan Kumar Meena IAS, who delivered the inaugural address emphasizing the need for collective environmental responsibility. Ms. Pheiona Joshy, President of the Kottayam Cycling Club, welcomed the participants and joined the District Collector in planting a fruit tree sapling, symbolizing a shared commitment to sustainability and ecological preservation.
The programme was also attended by officials of the Rotary Club of Kottayam Southern, representatives of participating cycling clubs and distinguished guests, making it a meaningful occasion that celebrated both community spirit and environmental stewardship. The event served as a powerful reminder that preserving nature is a shared responsibility and that every tree planted today contributes to a healthier and greener tomorrow. The centuries old Elanji tree at Mr. Jacob’s residence stood as an inspiring testament to this enduring commitment to conservation.
