Plant Details

Nutmeg is a tropical spice valued for its warm, sweet aroma and flavor. It thrives in humid climates with temperatures between 20–30°C and requires well-drained, fertile loamy soil with good organic content. Nutmeg trees start bearing fruit after 7–9 years and can continue for several decades. The seeds are processed into ground nutmeg, while the outer covering (mace) is also a popular spice. Nutmeg is widely used in culinary dishes, desserts, and beverages and has medicinal properties that aid digestion and alleviate pain. Proper irrigation, pruning, and pest management are essential for healthy yields. Its economic value, long storage life, and high demand make nutmeg a significant crop in tropical regions, particularly in India, Indonesia, and Grenada.
