Plant Details

Pepper, often called the “king of spices,” is a climbing vine grown for its spicy berries, used as a seasoning. It thrives in warm, humid climates with temperatures between 23–32°C and requires well-drained loamy soil with high organic content. Pepper vines are trained on supports like trees or poles and benefit from regular pruning. The berries are harvested at different stages for black, white, or green pepper. Known for its pungent flavor and medicinal properties, pepper stimulates appetite and aids digestion. It is a major export commodity and a vital ingredient in global cuisines. Pepper cultivation involves proper pest and disease management to maintain high yields. Sustainable farming practices, such as intercropping, enhance soil health and biodiversity.
