Plant Details
Sweet sorghum is a drought-tolerant cereal crop grown for its sugar-rich stalks, which are used in biofuel production and animal feed. It thrives in warm climates with temperatures between 25–35°C and requires well-drained loamy or sandy soil. Sweet sorghum matures in 90–120 days and is valued for its adaptability to low-input farming systems. The stalks are processed into syrup, ethanol, or jaggery, while the grains are used as food and feed. The crop supports sustainable agriculture by requiring less water and fertilizer than traditional sugarcane. Sweet sorghum is gaining popularity as an eco-friendly alternative for renewable energy and as a dual-purpose crop for food and industrial uses.
