Plant Details

Potato is a globally important root crop known for its versatility and high carbohydrate content. It thrives in cool climates with temperatures between 15–25°C and requires well-drained, sandy loam soil rich in organic matter. Potatoes are propagated using seed tubers and mature within 70–120 days, depending on the variety. The tubers are consumed fresh, processed into chips, fries, and starch, or used as animal feed. Potatoes are rich in vitamins C and B6, potassium, and dietary fiber, making them a staple food worldwide. Cultivation involves regular irrigation, hilling, and pest control to prevent damage from insects and diseases like blight. Potato farming supports both local economies and global food security.
