Plant Details

Cocoa is a tropical crop grown for its beans, which are processed into chocolate, cocoa butter, and powder. It thrives in warm, humid climates with temperatures between 25–30°C and requires well-drained, fertile soil rich in organic matter. Cocoa trees grow best under shade and demand regular watering and pruning for optimal yields. The beans are fermented and dried before processing into various products. Cocoa is valued for its antioxidants and energizing properties, making it a staple in the confectionery and cosmetics industries. Sustainable cocoa farming practices, such as agroforestry, enhance biodiversity and soil fertility. It supports livelihoods in producing countries and is a significant export commodity.
